Retail sales were in full-swing this Memorial Day weekend, so of course I hit the local outlets to find some good deals. I never usually shop at Talbots, but my mom (my ultimate shopping buddy) wanted to check out the store. My eye automatically went to the gorgeous lemon skirt pictured below. This skirt brought back memories of a trip to the Amalfi Coast in Italy, that my family and I took years ago. Never have I visited a more beautiful place- I would go back in a heartbeat.
Talbots, Lemon Skirt, Around $30
I love the print on this skirt. Not only does it remind me of Italy, but it is perfect for warmer weather. Skirts and pants adorned with prints are ideal for the summer- they give off a light-hearted, care-free vibe, and that’s exactly how summer should be.
Me In Positano Italy (take me back!)
How did you spend your Memorial Day weekend?
I had a last-minute interview in NYC the other day, and since I am in the midst of moving, of course the suit I needed was packed in a box and already at its new home. This left me with no choice but to run to the mall, grab a suit and a shirt, get in the car and head to NYC. Luckily I dug a pair of heels out of my car (I always say there’s a reason my car is so messy!). Now usually I jump at any chance to shop (or just when hearing the word “shop”), but I was in such a rush and rather frantic at the time. Somehow, I had a successful shopping trip and purchased a really great linen suit and an even better shirt, both at New York & Company. I got so so many compliments on this top, that I would like to share it with you.
New York & Company, White Ruffle Tank, Around $29.99
This tank automatically caught my eye on the hanger. I am a huge fan of ruffles, and simple details such as a bow or fabric-flower. Paired with black linen pants, this top looks rather fancy, but it can also be worn with regular jeans or skirts. With the summer heat, I find it is harder to find clothing that is business-appropriate yet still comfortable. This tank does the trick.

In light of Oprah’s final and last show (tear), I’d like to share two of my favorite Oprah quotes. I know there are some people who aren’t her biggest fans, but I have always greatly admired her. She always presents herself with such class, and uses her success to help others. I also happen to be a big fan of the Oprah Winfrey book club.
“Be more splendid, more extraordinary. Use every moment to fill yourself up.”
The second quote is located on the picture below, along with some information about Oprah, including her favorite clothing. I have to agree with her – my favorite piece of clothing is a pair of my sweats as well.
I have been looking for the perfect crossbody bag for quite some time now and finally purchased one the other day. It’s the perfect color, a mustard yellow, and the price is right (now that’s an entertaining show!), but I am having second thoughts as to whether or not I should keep it. It’s also made out of pax leather, and I just love leather bags. So what’s the problem you may ask? Well I’m the big-oversized-carry-my-life-in-my-bag type of person, and this beautiful little bag only holds the essentials. I do love it and am thinking it might work for certain occasions when I don’t need to take much with me. What do you think – to keep or not to keep?

Ellen Tracy is my new favorite designer, well label to be more exact. Ellen Tracy was founded by Herbert Gallen in 1949, and originally designed only blouses. The company has now branched out and has all different types of clothing as well as perfume and housewares. Here is one of my favorite pieces I own by Ellen Tracy.
Ellen Tracy, Brown Tank Top, Marshall's, $12.99 (originally $29.50)
I love this tank top for its simplicity (and the fabric is AMAZING!). The design is rather basic, but the zipper on the side adds just the right amount of detail. This is how the majority of the company’s clothes are – simple, refined, with tiny details. Everything can be dressed up or down, and this is something I really look for in my clothing. This tank top is from Marshall’s, but Ellen Tracy clothing is also sold at Macy’s, and housewares can be found at Sears.
A fun fact I learned while researching Ellen Tracy (yes, I frequently google search designers and brands), is that Cindy Crawford used to be the lines muse! In 2002, Cindy Crawford did a photo shoot for Ellen Tracy at the Hudson Valley Ridge. Sometimes there are certain photo shoots that I just LOVE and this is one of them – Cindy Crawford’s photograph by the water is just beautiful. Click the link below to see!

It’s always nice to re-connect with your inner “Thoreau.” With the new Spring weather, my brother and I have been enjoying the outdoors. I am a migraine-sufferer and find that the fresh air helps clear my head quite a bit. Where we live, we are lucky to be surrounded by many nature reserves, parks, farms – very nice scenery. Here are a few pics from an impromptu nature-walk after work. Yes, I wore that outfit to work…it was a comfy-casual kind of day.

I’ve always been a Lauren Conrad fan (team LC!). From Laguna Beach to The Hills, yes I followed her…don’t judge, but when I heard she had a clothing line at Kohl’s I will admit that I was a little skeptical. The other day I checked out the clothing line for myself, and I was actually pretty impressed. When speaking to one of my co-worker’s about her designs, she was also impressed. Most of the clothes stay true to her own personal style. That is they are rather “flowy” with floral patterns, and details such as ruffles and frills. Here is a top modeled by her from her collection.

She also has a brand called mark., which sells cosmetics, jewelry, bags, and clothing through AVON. I have actually purchased a few items from mark. and really like them. The brand seems to be getting rather popular. Here is a mark. dress I bought a while ago and absolutely love it. It’s a really interesting pattern, and has a zipper that goes all the way down the front of the dress. Matches with many different shoes.
AVON, mark. Paint the Town Dress, $30
In addition to these two lines, LC is launching a new clothing line called Paper Crown. There is no word yet on how the pieces will be priced or where they will be sold. The line will include many basics such as blazers, silk blouses, cocktail dresses, etc…
In addition to her three lines, LC also has three books in her L.A. Candy series. My friend convinced me to read these, and I was honestly so entertained. They are all a spin-off of the life of a reality TV star – you would be shocked how much of reality is actually “reality.” She also just came out with a style book called Lauren Conrad Style, which I have not been able to read just yet.
I just recently bought two new dresses that I am so very excited about. The one dress is from LOFT (where else?) and I got an amazing deal on it. It was originally $79.50 but I purchased it for around $10.50 (30% of sale price). What a steal! Really, this made my day. I think I may have been born to shop. The other dress is from Vera Wang’s line at Kohl’s and it was also on sale for less than $20, with an original price of $68.
LOFT, Black Sweater Dress, $10.50
LOFT, Back of Black Sweater Dress
I have been looking for the perfect black sweater dress for YEARS – sadly, this is not even an exaggeration. There are some pieces of clothing, which I label “staple” pieces, and this is one of them. What I love so much about this dress (other than the amazing price) is that it is classy, yet can also be worn out. I also love the zipper on the back of the dress, which only reaches about mid-back. This makes the look a little more modern. There’s a quote from Coco Chanel that I always remember, “A woman without a little black dress has no future.”
Vera Wang, Spring Dress, Under $20
Vera Wang, Spring Dress Details
I am a big fan of Vera Wang’s designs because everything she makes is so in style, yet never too “out there.” It’s not too revealing, not too flaunty, but somehow catches your eye. I love this dress for these very reasons. First of all, I think the colors and designs are beautiful. The colors are very fall-like, yet the dress is more of a Spring/Summer dress. I also love the tiny details, like the ruffle down the front, the huge pockets, and the simple fabric-tie belt. Many times, the simpler the better.
My apologies for the strange lighting in the pictures…I have bright fluorescent lights.
I once asked someone how they liked their iPhone, and his response was, “If it was a woman I’d marry it!” Of course I looked at him like he was absolutely crazy, and now I think I understand. I just recently purchased my first iPhone, and yes, I am in love. It sounds crazy, but it’s true. This is the most amazing phone I have ever had – it is literally a computer in the palm of my hand. Coincidentally, there was an article on Yahoo’s homepage yesterday about how big Apple is getting. Here is the link if you are interested:
iPhone users, any recommendations for apps? Currently I’m hooked on Words With Friends, although I need some practice…
This Mother’s Day, my mama visited with my dad, and brought my little pup as well. Eleven of us, including my Babucia (which means Grandma in Ukrainian), uncle, aunt and cousins, headed over to a relatively new Italian restaurant. Next to Ukrainian food, Italian food is by far my favorite – I am a true carb junkie, and I always have room for a delicious canoli. The restaurant had up-scale food and was decorated beautifully. What I really liked was the color scheme – the napkins were orange and cream, and all the waiters had lime green ties, while the hostesses wore leopard print tops. Very modern-chic! The restaurant was also decorated in my favorite flower, the orchid. Here are a few pics from our family outing.
