These flowers just caught my eye the other day – I loved the arrangement. Thought I’d share!
“I did not have three thousand pairs of shoes. I had one thousand and sixty.” -Imelda Marcos
I thought it was time for a lighthearted Monday Style Quote.
Imelda Marcos is a Filipino politician and widow of the tenth Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos. She is known for her extravagant lifestyle, such as owning an impressive shoe collection.
As a world-famous shoe collector, Imelda opened a museum several years back exhibiting her shoes, called the Marikina City Footwear museum.
Today’s Friday’s Most Wanted is a Coach Wristlet. I don’t know why, but when it comes to wristlets I just always end up buying Coach.
Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
For some last-minute Thanksgiving Day outfit suggestions, take a look at an article I recently wrote for the Examiner.
Here is the final DIY re-created centerpiece! It turned out a little differently than I expected, but I like the end result. Who knew candy corn could look so good?!
Here are some cute Thanksgiving-ey things I found online, as ideas for next year.
Remember, Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for the things we have been blessed with in our lives – take this day to enjoy time with family and friends.
“Dark! Blue on blue. Black on black. Whatever it was, it made a fashion statement. All of a sudden, I was a guest speaker at the annual tie convention! One day, the executive producer, Michael Davies, said, ‘We can’t go with that look anymore. Every weatherman on television in every small town in America is dressing like you.’” -Regis Philbin
In honor of Regis Philbin’s retirement from Live! with Regis and Kelly, I thought a quote from him would be appropriate. I was always a fan of Regis, and love this quote because it shows just how much of an icon he really was (and still is) – even in terms of fashion.
My mom has been quoted saying, “Wouldn’t it be so great to be a writer?” My brother and I, being writers ourselves, have always encouraged her to write, but she has never yet fully completed a work. I think she has a great voice and writing style, and suggested that perhaps she should start a blog. She’s great at cooking, so I’m thinking a food blog would be a lot of fun for her. She just recently purchased a sofa, which was delivered yesterday, and is so excited about it. I suggested she blog about it on thestripedelephant, as a little test to see how she likes the blogging world.
So here you are…Irene’s Blogging Debut – New Sofa
OK now, don’t laugh! The reason I wanted a new sofa is because I had 4 matching pillows from our previous home, which perfectly matched the old curtains and did not fit our new windows. I ripped up the curtains and re-made them to fit our new windows. The pillows were stored in the closet and I thought wouldn’t it be nice to put them out for Thanksgiving. The whole family is coming for Thanksgiving. Also, the sofa could always be used as an extra bed!
It arrived yesterday and I was like a little kid on Christmas Day. The best part is I decided not to tell my hubby, partly because I wanted to see exactly how long it would take for him to notice (a little joke at our house). We cheated a little because we left the light on in the D.R., and hubby is very good about turning lights off when not needed. He went to turn the light off, then turned it back on, and just stood looking into the L.R. We were beside ourselves laughing.
Needless to say, we all think it looks great and completes our room and everyone is already laying claim to who will be using it first.
Since I lack any sort of cooking skills, I am never any help in the kitchen and am happily given the task of decorating, specifically creating a Thanksgiving centerpiece. Every year, my parents host Thanksgiving at their house, and a huge amount of my extended family stay over. It’s always a ton of fun, but also quite hectic (15+ people sleeping over!). Last year I created a centerpiece with lemons, which received many compliments, but this year my mom already started to make one.
Now, don’t get me wrong, this is a beautiful Centerpiece. I just feel it is a bit “Christmas-ey,” and needs to look a little more “Fall-ish.” I thought perhaps something orange or brown would do the trick, so I bought some dried out Eucalyptus Leaves, which smell delicious!
I’m not exactly sure how to add these to the Centerpiece. Any ideas about how to make the Centerpiece above a little more “Fall-ish?”
Here are some DIY Centerpieces I found online, which I love and have inspired me.
Gore Vidal is an American author, playwright, screenwriter, and essayist. He is also very politically active, and ran for office twice. I love this quote of his, because being yourself, doing what you want, and not giving a damn, is often such a hard thing to do! I admire those people who are truly themselves, and know their own personal style.
Lately I have been seeing a lot of women decked out in fur – fur vests, fur coats, etc. Usually, I’m not a huge fan of this look, but I saw a few fur pieces on the subway today that I liked. Personally, I could never wear real fur, but fake fur I can do. This Friday’s Most Wanted piece is a faux fur vest.
I love this vest because of its color, which can be matched with a number of different materials, patterns, colors, etc. I also like the double-belt that it comes with, and of course the fact that it is not real fur, but faux fur.
