“Life is worth living as long as there’s a laugh in it.” -L.H. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
A very happy birthday to the one special person who keeps me laughing all day and all night!
“It’s not about being the best, it’s about being better than you were yesterday.” -Anonymous
I saw this quote on Instagram, and thought it would be the perfect quote for a rainy gloomy Monday. Make it a good week!
“Don’t lament so much about how your career is going to turn out. You don’t have a career. You have a life. Do the work. Keep the faith. Be true blue. You are a writer because you write. Keep writing and quit your bitching. Your book has a birthday. You don’t know what it is yet.” -Cheryl Strayed, Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar
“There’s plenty of research that proves how much being outside opens up a different part of your brain and creativity. But walking side by side also changes the interaction. I find myself listening better, and people are more likely to say things more directly. I think it’s because I’m not looking at them. They’re less self-conscious and can connect to a bigger truth.” -Marie Claire interview with Silicon Valley executive turned author Nilofer Merchant
This quote comes from an interview that was in Marie Claire’s, January 2014 magazine, with Nilofer Merchant (former Silicon Valley executive and now author). It was all about how sitting at our desks all day isn’t great for our health. I personally am a huge advocate of stepping outside during work (or even to a different part of the office!) to recharge. In this interview Merchant spoke about how she mixed work and health by doing things like holding “walking” meetings outside with employees, and received very positive results.
“Power, influence, strength – all those things can overpower what’s important in life. But as long as you food and shelter over your head, if the necessities are taken care of, what makes us happy on top of that is very simple.” -Meryl Streep
During this holiday season, I think it’s important to remember those less fortunate than us. What better way to start the week than with a humble quote from the beautiful and talented Meryl Streep (one of my all time favorite actresses).
Thanks to all those who came to shop The Striped Elephant Shop’s table at the Astoria Holiday Market this weekend – it was a great success! Below is a photo of me and my table at the market. Now for your Monday quote.
“Remember that your level of happiness is the most important thing you have to protect, because if your’e caught up in the rat race of work and duty and money, you do not live beyond your means. I don’t care whether the person next to you is making a million bucks and you’re making way less. If you judge yourself by that person, you’re not judging yourself by your intrinsic joy and what makes you feel happy.” -Actress Goldie Hawn
Hello friends, hope you all had a fabulous holiday weekend. I for one did not want to return back to work (but who ever does?!). I wanted to apologize for being such a “blog-slacker” lately, for lack of a better term. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been working on a ton of jewelry pieces, that will be sold at the Astoria Holiday Market this Sunday, as part of The Striped Elephant Shop. I will write-up a post later in the week with additional information, and am hoping to get back to my regular writing schedule soon! Here is today’s quote…it’s one I need to keep in my mind when living out each day.
“Remind yourself that in the end there is really nothing to be afraid of. Somehow things always come together, just maybe not the way you plan or expect.” -Maria Pinto, Fashion Designer
