Hello all, so sorry this quote is coming so late! I was sick all weekend, and took a day off from work to re-coop.
I saw this on Pinterest, and thought it was just too perfect not to share (who doesn’t indulge in a little bit of retail therapy here and there?).
“Shopping is cheaper than a psychiatrist.”
My friend posted this on her friend’s wall on Fbk (as a joke at first), but when I saw these Gray Dress Yoga Pants, I knew they were going to be this week’s most wanted piece. I would label my fashion style as a comfy-chic, and feel these pants would fit perfectly into my lifestyle. They are a mix between yoga and dress pants (genius!), and can be worn with boots, flats, or sneaks. Seriously, these pants are a necessity for me.
Happy Friday and have a lovely weekend! I will spend a good portion of my weekend working on some homemade jewelry for www.shop.thestripedelephant.com, that will be sold at Astoria Market, February 9th. Come shop!
Love this quote, because this is what I am also trying to do! Easier said than done. If you haven’t seen the TV show Portlandia, you should definitely check it out – not only is it hilarious, but Chloe has a great part in it!
Today’s most wanted piece is a Carven sweatshirt with a banana on the front. Why did I pick this piece, it’s a sweatshirt with a banana on the front (need I say more?)! I love that the banana design is tropical, and placed on a sweatshirt, which is meant to be worn for warmth – what an oxymoron. This would be a great piece to take on a vaca. Hope everyone has a great weekend and keeps warm!
“It’s OK to be afraid – that’s when good stuff happens. Keep your eye on the future, but remember to stay in the present. That energy will attract the person who’ll bring you your next career opportunity. It’s about the journey as much as the destination.” -Veep Producer Stephanie Laing, interview from January 2014 Marie Claire
Some great advice (that I need to keep in mind!) from the producer of Veep Stephanie Laing. Stephanie was a bank teller in Ohio, when she was asked by one of her regulars if she would like to do some work on his truck commercial. She jumped at the chance, realized how much she liked it, and moved out to LA with only $1,200 to her name (buying gas with dimes) to fulfill her dreams.
This week’s most wanted piece is from none other than my favorite designer James Perse (love!). Look at this Cowl Neck Skinny Dress? Don’t you just love it? What I love about this dress (and just about anything James Perse), is that the design is so simple, which allows the piece to be multi-functional, not to mention that his clothes always feel good when you wear them. No I’m not crazy, they really do – the fabrics are just so soft. I also really like how there’s just a tiny bit of gray that peeks out from the bottom of the dress – gives off a nice contrast. Hope everyone has a great weekend! So happy it’s Friday.
“There’s plenty of research that proves how much being outside opens up a different part of your brain and creativity. But walking side by side also changes the interaction. I find myself listening better, and people are more likely to say things more directly. I think it’s because I’m not looking at them. They’re less self-conscious and can connect to a bigger truth.” -Marie Claire interview with Silicon Valley executive turned author Nilofer Merchant
This quote comes from an interview that was in Marie Claire’s, January 2014 magazine, with Nilofer Merchant (former Silicon Valley executive and now author). It was all about how sitting at our desks all day isn’t great for our health. I personally am a huge advocate of stepping outside during work (or even to a different part of the office!) to recharge. In this interview Merchant spoke about how she mixed work and health by doing things like holding “walking” meetings outside with employees, and received very positive results.
This week’s most wanted isn’t just one piece, but several pieces from the Nate Berkus for Target line! I love pieces for the home, and am very into all of Nate Berkus’s home designs. They are simple and not too flashy, but somehow classy and modern at the same time. Nate uses pretty neutral colors (perfect for matching different rooms!) and adds details here and there to make each piece unique. What makes this designer collab even more awesome than it already is…the affordable prices. Love it! Below are some photos of my favorite Nate Berkus for Target pieces. Check out this awesome line for yourself!
My fiance (still not used to this word!), is obsessed with the show Doctor Who (or maybe just the main female actress, Jenna-Louise Coleman), so he sent me this skirt yesterday, that just happens to be something Jenna wore in the show. I actually really like the skirt! Of course it’s sold out and a little out of my price range, but I’m sure I can find something similar elsewhere. It’s got a punk-rock meets modern vibe, and I’m always into mixing styles. Happy Friday everyone! Hope everyone in NYC enjoys the snow.
